Provide a life-changing experience to a high school student who lives in the City of Richardson and invest in Richardson's future workforce by sponsoring an intern fellow at your workplace or a local nonprofit this summer.

Educators agree - one of the most powerful ways for students to make the connection between a college education and great career is to gain exposure to a professional workplace. The Richardson Mayor's Summer Internship Program has become a national model for its pioneering work in providing paid summer internships to eligible students, many who will be the first in their families to attend college.

In our inagural year, the program has been endorsed by Richardson Mayor, City Council members, Richardson Chamber of Commerce, Richardson ISD and leaders, plus Fortune 100 companies, successful small businesses and top nonprofits.

Employers have several options for participating in the Richardson Mayor's Summer Internship Program:

Sponsor an intern (or several) at your workplace. Sign Up now:

Businesses and organizations of every size - from small firms and mid-sized businesses to corporate headquarters - are encouraged to provide a paid internship for at least one intern fellow from June 18 to August 10, 2018. Internships, which may run 20 to 40 hours per week and pay a minimum of $9 per hour, should provide a real-life experience in the workplace where the student performs meaningful work assignments, shadows executives, observes company operations, and has personal contact with managers and executives regarding future career avenues in the industry.

Sponsor an intern (or several) at a nonprofit. Sign Up now:

Businesses and organizations also can underwrite an intern fellow to work at a participating local nonprofit from June 18 to August 10, 2018. This is a wonderful option for organizations unable to host an intern fellow at their place of business or for those who would also like to support a local nonprofit. Businesses and organizations can even choose the nonprofit of their choice.

Become a Program Sponsor.

To provide additional support of the internship program, there are several Program Sponsorships available. Currently the program is looking for sponsors to underwrite workforce-readiness trainings, RMSIP Job Fair, Leadership Development, student meals, intern mentoring and RMSIP Celebratory Luncheon. Program Sponsorships begin at $1,500.

Provide an eight-week paid summer internship at your business/organization for an intern fellow for 20 to 40 hours weekly from June 18 to August 10, 2018

Intern candidates may be pre-screened by employers through the program's online student application database. Database access logins will be provided in April 2018.

Place the summer interns on your organization's payroll and pay them a minimum rate of $9 per hour

Organizations have the option of paying an additional of $3.00 per hour for the program to handle their on-boarding and payroll of their student interns.

By Participating in our inaugural year, the Program fee will be waived. Program fee covers summer intern's participation in full day Work-Readiness Workshop, Job Fair, three days of Leadership Development Workshops, Community Service Day and provides intern with a two-week bus pass.
